Anything the truck already carries, we will bring in for you.
This is not a favour and it is not a fuss. Our distributor's book runs to about eleven thousand items and we stock maybe two thousand of them. The other nine thousand are one phone call away.
- Ring or tell us at the register by Tuesday night. Brand and size if you know them. A photograph of the label held up at the counter works just as well and is what most people do.
- We look it up while you wait. If it is in the book we will tell you the price and the case size on the spot. If it is not, we will say so rather than take the order and disappoint you Thursday.
- You are not committing to a case. A case of twelve comes in, you take the two you wanted at case price, and the other ten go on the shelf. If they sell, it becomes something we stock. Several regular lines started exactly that way.
- Truck comes Thursday morning. Anything ordered is on the counter under your name by early afternoon. We hold it a week.
- You pay case price, not shelf price. There is no handling charge and there never has been. The reason is straightforward: a person who drives here for one odd thing buys eleven other things while they are in.
What the truck will not bring
Fresh seafood beyond frozen shrimp and fish fillets. Anything that needs a licence we do not hold, which means spirits. Bulk restaurant sizes of fresh produce, because we cannot keep it. And nothing at all from outside the distributor's book, so if it is a specialist brand you found online, we cannot get it and we will tell you that in one sentence instead of three.
Standing orders
Several families have a list that repeats every week or every month without anybody having to ring: a case of a particular formula, a specific gluten free flour, a brand of cat food nobody else round here buys. Say the word and it just turns up. There is no paperwork and nobody signs anything.
Holidays
Turkeys, hams and pie shells need ordering by the second week of November, and we do run out. That is the one deadline on this page that is real, and the one people miss most years.
